A Scheme of Work for introducing students to animation techniques and the key pioneers of each field.
Originally designed for teaching UAL students but easily adaptable for teaching other curricula including BTEC Media and Art courses. Aimed at teaching Level 2 students but easily adjustable to either Level 1 or Level 3.
The scheme involves weekly taught sessions on each type of animation followed by workshops where students develop and produce ideas.
The scheme lasts for seven weeks and aims to build into a project based around the cross media video game Clayfighter. Clayfighter scheme and resources available separately or in bundle.
A worksheet and presentation to introduce students to the work of Lotte Reiniger and silhouette animation.
Made for Level 2 students but easily adjustable to lower year learners or level 3 students.
I use this teaching knowledge a UAL course but is suitable for other media qualifications or lessons as well as art lessons.
The lesson is used as a precursor to a practical activity making silhouette animation.
Scheme of work and assignments for teaching BTEC Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production Unit 11: Animation for Digital Media.
The scheme covers teaching for sessions from September to December but can be adjusted accordingly.
The scheme begins with study and experimentation in animation techniques and then progresses onto a larger form project. The larger form project is also useful for some criteria in Unit 2: Planning and Pitching a Digital Media Product.
Assignment briefs were approved by EV in 2015.

A lesson to introduce students to the technique of Cel Animation and its key pioneers. Pack includes two gapped handouts and a presentation.

All worksheets and presentations and a scheme of work for seven weeks of theory and practical sessions, introducing students to animation and it's different forms.
Presentations look at the different styles of animation and their pioneers. Students complete research tasks and explore examples. Each theory session leads onto practical application sessions. After practical sessions are complete, students complete weekly reviews.
This unit was initially designed for teaching Level 2 UAL students but easily adaptable to other curricula, particularly BTEC, as well adaptation to higher or lower levels.
Recommended Time: 6 - 8 hours per week.
Recommended Resources: DSLR Cameras, Editing Software, Computers, Plastercine or modelling clay, wire, Milliput, white card, black card, scissors, charcoal, Adobe Animate/Flash.
A lesson for introducing students to the visual codes of mise-en-scene.
Pack includes clear objectives, a interactive presentation, a gapped handout for active learning and application of knowledge moving from comprehension through to application and analysis.
Also included are four link to TedEd lessons I have created allowing students to explore different examples. This can be used for a follow on class or set as homework for discussion in a follow-up session.
